The Print Production Manager is responsible for the coordination, scheduling, facilitation and monitoring of the printing and production operations of the print shop, mailing services and fulfillment. This includes the supply chain process for all print production requirements from planning, RFQ, through delivery of components and mailing services. In addition, the successful candidate will liaise internally and externally with vendors and clients, while managing the flow of information to ensure timely and efficient delivery to all clients.
o Effectively coordinate, schedule, facilitate and monitor offset printing, digital printing, and mailing services.
o Responsible for managing and providing a day to day oversight of all aspects of print, mailing and fulfillment projects with a hands on execution role, including initial production and conceptual planning, manage supplier resources, and facilitating communication as needed with department management.
o Ensure all client requirements are understood and translated into measurable and effective communication to all necessary end-users.
o Perform multistage QC procedures, including print proofs, press approvals, data processing, editing, and additional value-added checking (fact checking).
o Manage artwork, work orders, proofs, change orders, and obtain approvals. Accurately and quickly update all documents, departments, vendors and suppliers.
o Set priorities and conform to processes consistently with regard to company goals and procurement policies as set forth by department management.
o Through project management, ensure client expectations, quality and color standards, and project specifications are maintained throughout production process to a timely, complete delivery.
o Possess knowledge and maintain awareness of leading-edge print production technology and paper commodity markets.
o Convey proactively supply chain issues to Department Manager.
o Provide detailed production schedules and keep projects on track; follow strict production timelines; organize and conduct production meetings with the production team; effectively communicate in both oral and written form.
o Log new jobs into trafficking database; maintain and update trafficking database of print project specifics.
oMaintain and purchase stock inventory required for orders utilizing stock checklist and inventory control software.
o Obtain necessary approvals for supplies and generate purchase orders.
o Coordinate an accountability system for each phase of the production schedule to insure the timely completion and availability of projects; provides direction and support during schedule interruptions to accommodate emergency requests.
o Troubleshoot and perform operator maintenance on copiers, presses and other related production equipment.
o Assists with printing, copying, binding, shipping and assembly duties as necessary.
o Monitor all production equipment to insure appropriate and safe procedures are followed as required by operation manuals; performs other related duties commensurate with the requirements
o Work closely with manager to implement the company's policies and goals.
o Lift and carry supplies, printed materials, and bulk paper; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff and clients.
o Utilize the Smart Quotes software to establish the order, set up the parameters for printing and provide the system with all production instructions and details.
o Performs other related duties, as required.
o Effectively coordinate priorities of various production functions simultaneously.
Requirements
o Bachelor's degree or 5-7 years' experience in a Commercial Offset and Digital Print Operations, with at least two years previous management experience.
o Knowledge of the print production process of multi-color publications.
o Demonstrated leadership in PreMedia, Print, Project Management or supply chain environment
o Strong attention to detail and operational workflow dynamics to effectively track and analyze the status within the procurement process
o Ability to multi-task and utilize resources to execute tasks within a deadline oriented environment
o Excellent communication and negotiating skills
o Commitment to continuous process improvement initiatives and ability to solve problems creatively
o Highly motivated and high level of initiative; inspires confidence to work independently and in support of department goals and business objectives.
o Strong analytics and computer skills (MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
o Exposure to postal regulations, a plus.
Knowledge and skills:
Print shop operations including the relationship between graphic artwork, offset printing, digital printing products; procedures for estimating job costs, supplies, and related materials and resources; maintaining print and copy schedule formats to meet shop production needs; standard software applications and desktop publishing programs including Publisher, In-Design, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop and other related programs on various platforms.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
